The Estate Pinot Noir
comes from three distinct vineyard sites on Mount Eden, with an average vine
age of 25 years. These dry-farmed vineyards produce a naturally lighter crop,
which concentrates flavor and character. At harvest, a significant proportion
of whole cluster is incorporated into the native fermentations to enhance
structure and aromatic complexity. The wine is aged sur
lie
for 10 months in 100% French Oak barriques,
and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
The
aromatics exhibit an ethereal quality. Notes of dark cherry and cola emerge,
adding complexity and pleasure. On the palate, the fruit lifts and brightens,
while a pronounced minerality completes the wine's profile. A well-balanced
acidity ensures aging potential. The finish is medium in length, with lingering
impressions of subtle cherry and fine French Oak.
This
Pinot Noir strikes a perfect balance between elegance and structure, making it
ideal to enjoy on its own or paired with a variety of dishes. Expect it to
develop gracefully over time: best enjoyed in 1-5 years and again between 9-20
years.
~Austin Chin, Winemaker
2022 featured a mild winter and a
relatively hot summer. We received a total of 26 inches of rain, which,
according to our founder Martin Ray, is the ideal amount for wine quality,
although it is below our historical average of 35 inches. After the historic
drought of 2021, the yields for our Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs were small but
balanced. The results produced concentrated, fruit-driven wines that are both
delicious and elegant.
